CLASS TIME: At student's convenience

OFFICE HOURS: Tuesday & Thursday 2:45-4:00 & Monday online 3:00-3:30. The professor will employ asynchronous communication primarily through e-mail and discussion boards to maintain regular contact with students as needed. If you need to talk directly, and visiting my office is inconvenient, come to the live or online office hours. If none of those are possible, email your request for alternate meeting times.

LESSONS: Course material is delivered in a series of 10 lessons. These are accessed from Sakai. New lessons become available as you progress through the material. Each lesson contains two or more PowerPoint slide decks with explanations. There may be some reading assignments, and other multimedia material that should be reviewed. Reading assignments from the text are listed by chapter number. End of text chapter problems that should be solved are listed. Finally, each lesson is completed with an exam. Due dates for the exam contained in each lesson appear below in the schedule. Exams must be completed by midnight, so be sure to begin adequately early. There is a one day grace period on each exam and if an exam deadline is missed for any reason you may apply to the instructor for a makeup exam that counts 90% of the regular exams worth..

EXAMS: Take each exam as part of the assignment in the lessons. If you are dissatisfied with the score earned on an exam, you may repeat it one time to earn a replacement score. Note, the replacement score replaces the earlier score even if it is lower, so do not take a replacement exam casually. You will get feedback on exams early on the exam's due date and can then decide if you wish to repeat the exam that day. Note that the final exam can only be taken one time.

MAKEUP EXAMS: Makeups are available within the tests & quizzes section for those who receive approval of their request. Makeups are identified by the same chapter numbers as regular exams with M added to the name. You may take a makeup exam ONLY if you did not complete the regularly scheduled exam. Note that makeup exams may be more difficult than regular exams and you can only score a maximum of 90% of the replaced exam's points on a makeup. If problems of any type prevent completion of an exam before the grace period ends, you must take the makeup. During the grace period a regular exam cannot be reset and the only possible problem resolution is taking a makeup. Take each makeup sequentially before the listed makeup due date.

GRADE DETERMINATION:

The final course grade earned will be determined by points earned on the series of exams, and a comprehensive final. Each exam will cover a brief topic of material from one lesson containing two chapters in the text. Some material builds on earlier material, so the exams must be taken in sequence. All exams and the final exam will be taken over the Internet using the Sakai system. The lesson exams contribute 600 points to the final grade. The final exam contributes 400 points to the final grade. The guidelines shown below will be used in determining final grades.
