Scenario 1: Downfall of Sustainable Development

Sustainable Development is not achieved due to the lack of IGO, NGO, or Government intervention over the years. Conditions in Africa begin to worsen and poverty grows. Economic resources are used up and African debts build. Environmental conditions worsen as poverty and famine increase.  Erosion of topsoil due to the increase in farming cause much of the land to no longer be harvestable.  Africa and all of its countries begin to break down socially as well. Even those that were once rich begin to suffer; the class system dissolves.  Famine and an even lower economic state cause riots to break out against governments, demanding action.  Government’s try to establish new policies and laws but the African people ignore them and African governments fail. Again the economic conditions suffer via a decrease in all exports, furthermore resulting in a decrease in imports (i.e. food and grain).  Many IGOs and NGOs withdraw from Africa, labeling the continent a “lost cause”.  Few IOs stay behind in an effort to help.  Large amounts of the population die from the lack of supplies needed, food, and medicines.

In the end Africa becomes a wasteland of poverty and disease.  There are very few IOs present to counteract what has occurred over the span of the past years.  Governments in Africa are almost nonexistent due to the lack of power and ineffectiveness they possess.
