The world market will continue in its selfish ways and disregard Latin America's needs and desires to participate in the global market. Therefore it will be up to NGOs and people such as Chico Mendes to pressure the government to protect its natural resources and fight to prevent the incoming of MNCs. Mendes was quoted saying, "At first I thought I was fighting to save rubber trees, then I thought I was fighting to save the Amazon rainforest. Now I realize I am fighting for humanity."
