IGO/NGO Reports

Assignments

You will write two short reports, one on an IGO and one for an NGO.  For each write a 5 page report covering (1) area(s) of interest and goals/purpose, (2) structure, (3) use of the WWW, (4) how decisions are made, and (5) effectiveness. Use standard margins and font size, proper citations, and hand in a paper copy and email Dr. Aspin an electronic copy.

One of the two reports will be presented in class and the other will be handed in on October 26.  You have no more than 10 minutes of class to give your report while demonstrating the organization's WWW site in class.

I will focus on the general material in lecture. The class reports are intended to then convey the richness and diversity of the international organizations that exits.  Thus, half the class will do reports on IGOs and half will do reports on NGOs.  Furthermore, the organizations reported in class must have specific characteristics----these are detailed in the schedule or reports.  For example, for IGO report number 2, you must select a multiple purpose IGO with a regional geographic scope of membership.

We need to assign members of the class to specific reports September 14.  Send me the name or the organization, along with its web address, one week before your present.

The only other restrictions on which organization you make select is that (1) it must be listed in Yearbook of International Organizations and  (2) have a web site.

For the report to be handed in and not presented:  (1) it must be on the opposite organization of your class report (i.e., if your class report is on an IGO, then the other report must be on an NGO), (2) it must be listed in Yearbook of International Organizations and  (3) have a web site.  These reports are all due on October 26.  The intention is to finish this assignment before we begin the larger group projects.

You can search for possible IGOs and NGOs using the general indexes on the PLS 318 homepage.
