PLS 300 - "Foundations of Political Economy"


During Spring Semester 2010 Professor Dannehl will be teaching PLS 300, "Topics in Political Thought."  Entitled "Foundations of Political Economy," the course will focus on the roles of political, economic, and social institutions in balancing the goals of security, wealth, liberty, and equity within society.  The course will explore the historical evolution of the field of political economy, including the contributions of important figures such as Adam Smith, Friedrich List, Karl Marx, Karl Polanyi, and Milton Friedman, among others.  The course also will consider the application of perspectives on political economy to substantive questions such as market reform and globalization.
