Essay Paper Assignment #3
Topic
In the latter half of the fourteenth century, Geoffrey Chaucer is held to have penned his literary masterpiece The Canterbury Tales. In the "Prologue to the Pardoner's Tale," Chaucer quoted a well known passage from the First Book of Timothy in the Bible: "Radix malorum est Cupiditas." Six hundred years later, another English writer of a decidedly different bent, Susan Strange, expressed an arguably similar sentiment in the corpus of her work. Using three critical areas of Strange's thought--global finance, the relationship between authority and markets, and the proper approach to comprehending international political economy--defend or refute the thesis that Strange's sentiment is consonant with the passage quoted from Chaucer's work.
