Topic
Across all of the texts we have examined in this course, the fundamental issue in political economy is the proper relationship between politics and economics in a capitalist society. How do Adam Smith, Karl Marx, and Karl Polanyi differ in their views on what this relationship should be? How do their understandings of the relationship between politics and economics affect their varying degrees of pessimism about the future of capitalism as a system?
Specifications
The paper should be approximately five to seven pages in length. You may exceed the seven-page limit slightly, i.e., no more than eight pages. The paper must be typewritten or computer-printed, double-spaced, and have standard one-inch margins. Do not use a font smaller than ten points.
Please paginate your essay, i.e., number the pages.
Use parenthetical references to document any quotations or specific information that you draw from course materials or other sources. If you use sources other than course materials, be sure to attach a works cited page.
Spelling, punctuation, and grammar will affect the grade
assigned to a paper. A poorly written paper will receive a commensurately
reduced grade.
The paper is due in my office no later than 12:00 NOON on Friday, May 11th.
