One of my areas of teaching and research is Entrepreneurship. I also serve on the board of the U.S. Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE).
Entrepreneurship deals with the analysis and actions
necessary to analyze opportunities, develop business plans, and launch a new business.
Small business management deals with the operation of a small company once it is launched.
I have written a book with Dr. Charles Stoner and Dr. Larry Weinzimmer, Strategic Planning in New and Emerging Businesses,
which is available at the Bradley Bookstore and on Amazon.com. I also wrote a textbook
ENTREPRENEURSHIP: A PLANNING APPROACH which I used several semesters in my BMA 359 course.
Here are some interesting web sites relating to small business and entrepreneurship.
The Small Business Administration
St.Louis University Entrepreneurship Web Site. This
site has lots of information. Perhaps the most useful is the "How To" link that
tells how to get small business information from the web.
U.S.Census Home Page
U.S. Government Web Site, an excellent site for
access to a host of government information
Franchising Web Site a good source of information on
franchising
Babson College is one of the hotbeds of
entrepreneurship education. Check their list of award-winning entrepreneurs. Anyone
interested in entrepreneurship research should check their listings for their Frontiers of
Entrepreneurship Research. We have most volumes in our departmental conference room. Note
that Tables of Contents for all volumes plus full-text of 1995 and later is on-line at
their site. This is an excellent site.
I am teaching in the Small Business Certificate Program, doing one class on Strategic Planning and one on Building a Business Plan.
