I was on the Board of Directors for the Peoria Area Affiliate of Habitat for
Humanity for five years, and it is still one of my favorite organizations. The local affiliate has built
nearly thirty
houses since it began in 1989. Habitat for Humanity International was begun in 1976 and
has built thousands of houses both in the United States and around the world.
Here are a few of my favorite web sites. These don't have much to do with anything except that I like them.
Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream is the best ice cream in the world. I particularly like flavors like Totally Nuts because it has a bunch
of different kinds of nuts in it plus a Dilbert cartoon on the carton; Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough; Cherry Garcia; and
Coconut Almond Fudge Chunk which is seldom available (boo!).
The Motley Fool is a web site dedicated to making investing interesting. Their motto is "Educate, amuse, enrich." They write
at a level that novices like me can understand, and they include a fair amount of subtle humor. They have several books out
that are well worth reading. The web site is free and is a good place to set up a stock portfolio that you want to follow.
Lands' End sells good quality clothes. My closets and drawers are full of them. In addition to their catalog and on-line selling,
they have outlet stores in the midwest (Chicago and Springfield, IL among others) where they put returns and
"not-quite-perfect" clothes on deep discount.
Yahoo.com and CNN.com
are good places to go for top news stories. I bookmark "top stories" and check it
periodically while I am at work.
Of course, Bradley University and the Foster College of Business Administration are worth looking at, especially if you are
looking for a good business school. You can click on each of our departments and majors as well as the official home pages of
the faculty.
