INDUSTRIAL ASSESSMENT CENTER

OFFICE OF INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGIES

What can Industrial Assessment Centers do for You?

Industrial Assessment Centers provide energy, waste, and productivity assessments at no charge to small and midsized manufacturers. Centers are funded through the Department of Energy, Office of Industrial Technologies' Industrial Assessment Centers(IAC) program. Assessments help manufacturers maximize energy efficiency, reduce waste, and improve productivity. On average, recommended actions from an assessment result in annual cost savings of about $55,000. The assessments are performed by local teams of engineering faculty and students from 30 participating universities across the country(refer to the following map and list for a location near you).
The university-based IAC team conducts a one day site visit and performs an assessment. Within 60 days, a report detailing the analysis, findings, and recomendations is sent to the client. In six to nine months, follow-up phone calls are placed to the plant manager.

Features of the IAC program

  • Experienced engineering faculty and students from local universities conduct the assessments.
  • The plant incurs no obligation to act on any recommendations.
  • Client proprierty information is protected.

  • Manufacturers can access the latest technologies and practices.
  • Technical assistance is available through OIT's.(Office of Technology Access)

    How Fast IAC Works

  • STEP 1 :

The university-based IAC team conducts a survey, followed by a one-to two day in-plant audit of energy, waste, and productivity.

  • STEP 2 :

Within 60 days, the plant manager receives a confidential report detailing the team’s analysis and money-savings recommendations, along with estimates of related costs, performance, and payback periods.

  • STEP 3 :

In six to nine months, the IAC follows up with a phone call to the plant manager to see which, if any, recommendations were implemented.
