Description: Discussion and application of teaching and learning theories as related to the classroom and clinical setting; including student clinical education, staff inservice and patient education.

Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student shall be able to:

  1. Identify teaching and learning theories as presented in class.
  2. Apply teaching and learning theories to the clinical setting and patient education.
  3. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each teaching and learning theory.
  4. Acquire the knowledge base and interaction skills essential to patient education.
  5. Apply teaching strategies to patient-care scenarios.
  6. Conduct an in-service training program
  7. Gain an appreciation for the importance of the teaching role of a Physical Therapist.

Description of Teaching Methods: Lecture/discussion, small group activities, written assignments, examinations, group presentations/individual presentations.

Miscellaneous Course Policies:

    Regular attendance is necessary.
    Come to class prepared to contribute.
    Any student who, because of a specific disability, may require special accommodations to complete     course requirements should contact me as soon as possible.
