'Start slowly then taper off' I am number 4852 which is about my finish place. Picture from 1994 Chicago Marathon.I came to Bradley University in 1989 to serve as the Director of Computing Services.
I was born in San Jose, California. When I grew up, it was a quiet town with prune and apricot orchards. Now they have malls and high rises named after orchards, but few trees. After College, I joined the Air Force. I served as a pilot at Langley AFB, VA rotating monthly to Homestead AFB, FL. I protected the east coast from Cuba, the Bahamas, and Bermuda. I was successful, because they did not dare invade on my watch! When the Vietnam war ended, the Air Force suddenly had more pilots than funds to pay them. I took an early out opportunity. After the service, I went to Wisconsin to live off the fat of the land. I soon noticed that other people with that outlook were universally thin - particularly in winter. I got a job at UW Stevens Point in the Office of Computing Services. I started as a programmer trainee and performed about every job one can do in a computing unit.
